Scams affect people of all ages, incomes, genders, and locations and often have serious financial consequences. They can also have a negative impact on our mental and emotional health, cause reputational damage, harm our credit, and take up valuable time. Figuring out what to do next can be very stressful.

This Scam Survival Toolkit will provide you with immediate steps for response, guidance for proper reporting, numbered action lists on what to do next, links to additional resources, and preparation for avoiding future scams. Criminals will keep running scams until they’re caught, so it’s smart to improve your defenses and to report their activities as they happen.

Remember, just because scams are common it doesn’t make them okay. This was not your fault. You’ve been wronged. A crime has been committed. Let’s work together to make it better.
